In medieval Europe, games and leisure provided entertainment for the citizens of Europe. People celebrated many festivals and celebrations, and watched many forms of entertainment.
People celebrated:

· Marriages
· Religious festivals
· Farming celebrations
· Other festivals based on traditions from pre- Christian times.
Originally, Sundays became a time off from work so that people
could attend certain feasts of the Church, such as Palm Sunday, Easter and Christmas. They called these Sundays ‘holy days’.
Types of entertainment are:
· Watching plays
· Attending banquets
· Singing folk songs
· Dancing to different music
Other means of leisure and games included:
· Seeing performers - acrobats, stilt dancers, actors, musicians, trained animal fighting.
· Playing sports – tournaments (such as jousting), hunting, hawking and tennis.
· Board games – chess, Fox and Geese, and Nine Men’s Morris.
· Fighting– quarterstaff, wrestling, shin-hacking and swordplay.
